The EU special envoy for the South Caucasus has called for the ceasefire between Armenia and Azerbaijan to be strengthened.
"It would be tragic, if the Karabakh conflict were not settled in 40 years," envoy Peter Semneby said.
He said that the Karabakh conflict had gone on for too long, according to Kommersant newspaper.
"The Karabakh conflict poses a threat to the regional countries, to neighbours in the region, since this conflict does not exist in a vacuum. More efforts are needed to settle this conflict. It is necessary to strengthen the ceasefire regime on the front line where we have seen incidents and exchanges of fire in the past few months," he said.
The EU envoy believes that, while the ceasefire does not settle the problem, it helps the negotiating process.
