Armenian President Congratulates Turkish Counterpart

E-mail Print PDF

Serzh Sargsyan has sent a letter of congratulation to Abdullah Gul on Turkey's national holiday, Republic Day.

The message says, according to ARMENIA Today:

"Your Excellency,

"I sincerely congratulate you on the Turkish Republic's national holiday - Republic Day.

"Taking the advantage of the occasion, I wish you good health and wish our neighbour Turkey progress.

"Dear Mr President, please accept my expression of deep respect."

Turkey closed its border with Armenia in 1993 in protest at Armenia's role in the war over the Azerbaijani territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. The two countries agreed to open the border in protocols signed in October 2009, but the rapprochement stalled and Armenia suspended ratification of the protocols.
