Turkish Defense Minister Vecdi Gönül met with his Azerbaijani counterpart Colonel-General Safar Abiyev on November 3 within his official visit to Baku.
The Turkish guest visited memorials of Heydar Aliyev and Zarifa Aliyeva at the Alley of Honor and graves of Azerbaijani and Turkish martyrs at the Alley of Martyrs and then he was welcomed solemnly at the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan. National anthems of both countries were played during the welcoming ceremony.
In a large meeting between the Azerbaijani and Turkish top defense officials, Safar Abiyev said Azerbaijan and Turkey have always supported each other and they were always together on ordeal days and Azerbaijan felt it in very beginning of Armenian aggression. The minister said unfortunately many international organizations have not given yet necessary assessment to the terrorist actions against Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Mentioning the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the minister said processes are going for elimination of the results of Armenian aggressive policy against Azerbaijan and solution of the problem through the negotiations, but he didn’t rule out that Azerbaijan will use other opportunities if the negotiations don’t bring results.
Abiyev said relations between the two countries in the field of defense, defense industry and military education were developing and these principles would be priorities of cooperation in the future as well. The minister said he believed today’s meeting and talks would make new contributions to the extension of friendship and cooperation.
In his turn, Turkish Defense Minister Vecdi Gönül also spoke about the extensive cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey in various fields, including defense and emphasized the necessity of its further development.
