Vatan: Turkey Gets Rid Of Troublesome Congress Reps

E-mail Print PDF

The midterm elections of the US Congress were a great blow not only to President Obama and Democrats, but also to the Armenian lobby, according Turkish daily Vatan.

The Congress finally got rid of the House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Head of Foreign Affairs Committee Howard Berman - people who had really become ‘troublesome’ for the Congress, the newspaper adds.

“The biggest loss for Armenians was Pelosi, who refused to meet with the Turkish Parliamentarians visiting Turkey. She is expected to be replaced by John Boehner who voted against the “Armenian Genocide” resolution in 2007. However, Pelosi will remain in office till January, and the issue may be included in the Congress agenda till then,” the author of the publication states.

“The next serious loss for Armenians is Howard Berman who artificially delayed the voting over the resolution in an attempt to collect additional votes from Congress corridors. Very probably he will be replaced by Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.”
