Head of the 'Sociometer' sociological center Aharon Adibekyan presented the results of the survey conducted last month.

This time the center studied the public opinion on the influence of the crisis on Armenia, the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations, the Armenian-Russian agreement on the extension of the term of the Russian military base. The survey was conducted among 1 650 citizens.

Forty-five percent of the respondents said they had been affected by the global financial-economic crisis.

Ninety percent back the deepening of Armenian-Russian ties, while only 46% support the normalization of relations with Turkey.

“We have tried to find out which are the countries we should develop relations with. Russia remains in the top position followed by the United States, European Union, Iran and Georgia. 3.5% have said they would like to develop relations with Turkey,” Aharon Adibekyan said.

“The political forces that work in the direction of Armenian-Turkish normalization rather than social-economic development have more chances to get more votes at the forthcoming parliamentary elections," the sociologist said.
