“Renaming Aghdam is a completely meaningless job”, said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during the opening of a new settlement for internally displaced persons in Aghdam commenting on Armenians’ intention to rename Aghdam town of Azerbaijan occupied by them.
The President said Armenia’s present cities had Azerbaijani names earlier, but then were changed by the Armenians. “Names of all of these cities from Iravan to Goyce Lake, Zangazur, Jalaloghlu were related to Azerbaijani people. Armenians moved to our territory. We know that. After that names of those regions were changed by Armenians”.
The head of state said Azerbaijan was working to attract much international attention to the Karabakh problem. “We are working that this issue is not removed from the world’s agenda, from the memories and the international organizations keep this issue always on agenda. Our diplomatic and political efforts are directed toward this and we could achieve it”.
The President said leading international organizations confirmed the Azerbaijan’s fair case with their resolutions and decisions and noted that efforts would be continued for strengthening of political-legal and diplomatic grounds. “We will restore our territorial integrity. The territorial integrity of Azerbaijan is recognized by all over the world. It was recognized when Azerbaijan reached its independence and joined the United Nations. There is no country in the world that doesn’t recognize Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. It is very important issue”.
