The chairman of the Constitutional Law Union, Hayk Babukhanyan, has said that NATO is not a reliable partner for Armenia.

The politician, who is not a member of parliament, told a press conference in Yerevan that the Armenian leadership should not its pin hopes on the Alliance,PanARMENIAN.Net reported.

“We should not turn away from Russia. Armenia’s cooperation with NATO doesn’t fit with Moscow’s interests in the South Caucasus,” Babukhanyan said.

The final declaration of the NATO summit in Lisbon on 19 and 20 November again expresses NATO's support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and by extension opposes the Armenian occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding Azerbaijani districts.

"We remain committed in our support of the territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, Georgia and the Republic of Moldova, and will also continue to support efforts towards a peaceful settlement of these regional conflicts, taking into account these principles," the NATO declaration said'.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan did not attend the summit because of concern about the declaration.
