E-mail Print PDF

Turkey may become stronger.Russia has better complete the construction of the Volgodonsk Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) and sell energy to Turkey instead of building a new NPP in Akkuyu, Turkey, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, has said.

According to him, Turkey may in that way become stronger and may "squeeze Armenia and establish the Turan state."

"Let's complete the construction of the Volgodonsk Nuclear Power Plant and sell power to Turkey. We should not make that state stronger. They may squeeze Armenia and establish the Turan state," Mr Zhirinovsky has said.

It comes after Russian State Duma ratified on Thursday an agreement signed between Moscow and Ankara over the construction of a new NPP in the Turkish region of Akkuyu.

According to Turkish news agency Cihan, 315 out 450 MPs voted in favor of the agreement.

Only six MPs voted against.

The construction of the Akkuyu NPP is expected to cost $20 million.
