Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met his Azerbaijani and Armenian counterparts, Elmar Mammadyarov and Edward Nalbandian, in Moscow on Monday.

The working meeting discussed the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijan's state-run news agency AzerTAj reported.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that at the meeting Moscow had reiterated its readiness to act as a guarantor of a Karabakh settlement, according to Russian news agency ITAR-TASS.

The ministry said that Azerbaijan and Armenia should reach mutual understanding through political and diplomatic means.

No further information about the meeting has been made available.

The meeting came just after the Azerbaijani and Armenian ministers met in Lisbon on the sidelines of the NATO summit.

The Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents are expected to meet at the OSCE summit in Astana on 1 and 2 December.
