Out of the 7 million foreigners currently residing in Russia, 4 million are labor migrants, Konstantin Romodanovsky, the head of Russia’s Federal Migration Service, has said.
Taking advantage of the Russian laws, citizens of the CIS countries work on the territory of Russia without paying taxes, Russian media quoted him as saying.
He said that people from those countries obtain tourist visas enabling them to stay in Russia for three months.
“Ukrainians work in Russia for three months and then return to their country. They do not pay taxes. Laws are mostly violated by Moldovans, but they, too, leave Russia upon the expiry of their visa and then return to Russia to work illegally. The same is the case with Uzbeks and Tajiks,” Romodanovsky said.
Speaking about the crime rate in Russia, he mentioned that immigrants account for only 3.5% “Most of the crimes are committed by the citizens of Armenia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan,” he said.
