Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev delivered a speech at the first meeting of Milli Mejlis’ 4th convocation, AzTV reported.

"The parliamentary elections are the next important step taken toward the democratic development in Azerbaijan," said the head of state and added “the elections had been held democratically, the results of which fully reflect people’s will.

The president expressed his confidence that Milli Mejlis’ new composition would contribute to future development of our country and the laws and legislative acts, adopted in the parliament, would create a good opportunity for democratic development of our country, – president Ilham Aliyev said. We ensure the development of democracy in Azerbaijan as well as take all measures for building a legal state.

Touching upon Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the president noted that notwithstanding the OSCE Minsk Group has been operating for 18 years, there is no any result yet. The result will be only after liberation of Azerbaijani lands. "Armenia artificially drags out the conflict solution, at the crucial moments Armenia takes back the issues that were agreed before, puts forward unreal proposals, thereby it tries to make the negotiation process as perpetual, – the head of state said.

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the real threat in the region, that’s impossible to keep Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the frozen state and the existing status-quo can not last. "We have to return to those lands and we’ll do it," – the president said.

At the end of his speech, the president once again congratulated Milli Mejlis members and wished them success in their activity.
