Pashayeva: Karabakh Problem Must Concern Not Only Azerbaijani People But Entire Turkic World

The Nagorno-Karabakh problem must concern not only the Azerbaijani people but the entire Turkic world, MP Ganira Pashayeva said at an international symposium "The Turkic World in the 21st Century" in Northern Cyprus on Dec. 2.

"The Karabakh problem must concern not only the Azerbaijani people but the entire Turkic world. The world Turks and their organizations must participate directly in solving this problem. They must increase their efforts in this direction. We must conduct a joint struggle against the false allegations of fictitious "Armenian genocide". We, Turks, living in various regions of the world, must not consider the problems as "your," "my" or "him" but  as "our". We must come together to solve problems, " she added.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the United States - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of Nagorno Karabakh and the surrounding regions.

Azerbaijan was represented by a large delegation. Chairman of the Association of Eurasia Economic Relations Hikmet Eren, Rector of European University Lefke, Professor Ahmet Bulent Goksel, the TRNC President Dervis Eroglu, the TRNC Majlis head Hasan Bozar, a member of the Grand National Assembly Mustafa Kabakchi, the deputy head of the Union of Municipalities of the Turkic World Ismail Kavunchu, TÜRKSOY head, Professor Dusen Kaseinov, head of Kechioren municipality Mustafa Ak spoke at the opening ceremony.

Prizes were awarded on the first day of the international symposium on "The Turkic World in the 21st Century" in Northern Cyprus on Dec. 2.

The symposium organized by the European University Lefke and the Association of Eurasian Economic Relations was attended by the TRNC President Dervis Eroglu, as well as MPs, scientists, historians, social and political figures, media representatives from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Northern Cyprus, Kosovo and Macedonia. 

The symposium covered real cooperation, investment opportunities and the integration process in the Turkic world, and 65 reports presented.

Pashayeva noted the painful problems of the Turkic world, in particular the Nagorno-Karabakh problem, the problem of the occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory by Armenia. As a result, one million Azerbaijanis have become refugees and internally displaced people. She pointed to the difficulty of their return to their homes. Moreover, MP spoke about the conditions of the Cooperation of Turkic countries and communities of the new format founded by Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's activity to increase cooperation among the Turkic countries and nations.

Azerbaijani MP Ganira Pashayeva was awarded the "Zeki Velidi Togan-2010" established by the Eurasian Economic Relations Circle in Turkey.

Among the individuals to receive awards were Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus President Dervis Eroglu, Turksoy General Director Dushen Kaseynov, Ankara Municipality Head Mustafa Ak Kecioren, Turkish representative of the International Fund for Black Sea Cooperation Ismail Safi, Ahi Evran University Professor Gursad Zorlu, and Turksam head Sinan Ogan.

MP expressed gratitude and presented her books written within the project "We learn and advocate for the Turkic world," and materials reflecting the realities of Azerbaijan to the organizers.
