NATO Resolutions On Karabakh Prove Soonest Collapse Of Armenia

E-mail Print PDF

Interview with Malahat Hasanova, member of the Azerbaijani delegation in NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

Q: How effective can be the indication of the fact of occupation of Azerbaijani lands in the resolution adopted in the NATO Lisbon summit?

A: Today, most influential international organizations stated their position on the fact of occupation of Azerbaijani lands and inadmissibility of existence of over a million of refugees and displaced persons. These facts are reflected in the documents of the United States, Council of Europe, European Union, Organization for Islamic Conference. All the same, the Karabakh conflict is being discussed in the parliaments of separate countries. For example, hearings were held over these issues and due decisions were passed by the parliaments of Germany and Italy. These decisions indicated that the Karabakh conflict must be settled within the framework of the norms of international law. A similar document, recognizing the occupation of a part of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia was adopted at the NATO summit in Lisbon. Thus, Azerbaijan has already received the political support of all international organizations, including from such powerful organization, as NATO. We received both political and legal support from these organizations.

If the fact of occupation of Azerbaijani lands is recognized by NATO and its highest body, as the summit of the alliance, this will naturally play a position role in the future negotiations make the position of Azerbaijan more weighty.

Q: What can be the implications for Armenia of the rejection of the president of this country to participate in the NATO summit?

A: Serzh Sargsyan knows well that Armenia, and the policy conducted by this country, is more exposing the world community. Certainly, the current situation around Armenia in the issue of Karabakh is not the last stage of its exposing. As is known, definite international forces on the resolution of the Karabakh conflict takes different steps, looking for definite causes to mislead the public opinion. One of the tools for such causes in the hands of the Armenian side is the so-called ‘Armenian genocide’. While discussing this issue in the parliaments of different countries, Armenia pushes the Karabakh settlement to the background scene. In other words, by this policy Armenia is masking its subtle plans. This subtleness became the reason of Sargsyan’s rejection to attend the NATO summit. The collapse of the Armenian policy became another, not less important reason of Sargsyan’s policy.

In addition, as is known, the upcoming OSCE summit in Astana will also discuss the Karabakh settlement. Therefore, the information that Sargsyan will also not attend this event has already been spread. This conduct will put an end to, since as I have already mentioned, Sargsyan’s powers will soon collapse.

Q: Will the Azerbaijani side raise Karabakh occupation at the session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly?

A: The Azerbaijani delegation in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly has repeatedly made a proposal to discuss the Karabakh issue at the session of the Assembly. We believe that in the result of the work we conduct the NATO Parliamentary Assembly will discuss the Karabakh settlement at its next session. This document will likely be the analogue of the documents on Karabakh, adopted earlier by the UN, Council of Europe, European Union and OIC. All the same, the documents adopted by the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, differ from the resolutions adopted by other international organizations. NATO is primarily a military organization. Therefore, the adoption of a resolution on Karabakh by military and simultaneously political organization is of special importance.
