Armenian language and literature department opened at the Igdir University, rector Ibrahim Hakki Yilmaz said, adding that they need a professor from Armenia.
New departments of Persian language and literature, Russian language and literature, as well as Armenian language will be functioning from 2011, Haberler reported.
Asked about Armenian language department, the rector said that he considers experts in Armenian studies are in demand in Turkey. “There are not that much departments of Armenian language at Turkish universities. We are bordering with Armenia and would find a professor there,” he emphasized.
Commenting on future professor’s nationality, Yilmaz noted it is not important. The expert should master Armenian and have teaching skills. Therefore, nationality is not so important he can be from Nakhchivan as well, he added.
