Armenian-German cooperation in the security field has been intensively developing over the past 12 years.

The NATO Information Center in Armenia has initiated a new program, within the framework of which it will organize meetings with Ambassadors of NATO member states accredited in Armenia.

During meeting with reporters the Ambassador of Germany to Armenia, Hans Johan Schmidt responded to a wide range of issues, including the summit in Astana. He assessed the summit as positive from two points of view. First it was a success that an OSCE summit was organized after an interval of 11 years.

“The second achievement was the joint statement on the peaceful settlement of conflicts in the region,” he said.

According to the Ambassador, the Armenian-German cooperation in the security field has been intensively developing over the past 12 years. Many issues, including the question of alternative military service, have been discussed.

Ambassador Schmidt said he appreciates the open and transparent cooperation of the Armenian Minister of Defense with Military Attachés of the foreign Embassies, which allows the latter to have immediate contacts with Armenian Officers and listen to their opinion on developments in the Karabakh issue, since the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict derives from their interests, the Ambassador added.

“The Karabakh conflict is asleep rather than frozen,” he stated.
