“Relations Between Turkey And Azerbaijan Are Not Ordinary”

E-mail Print PDF

Interview with M. Kemal Kaya, senior fellow at the Stockholm and Washington-based Institute for Security and Development Policy.

Q: What is behind the scandal with Wikileaks in your opinion?

A: I  don't think that it is only a cyber crime. There must be some other important reasons behind this scandal but it is very early to make some speculations on the issue.

Q: Is it just coincidence that this happened right before the OSCE summit in Astana?

A: I don't see any relations about the timing of release of some documents and OSCE meeting in Astana it is just coincidence.

Q: Don’t you think that this history has damaged the US image?

A: Off course it severly damaged the image of US all around the world. And we don’t know yet all the documents. For a certain time it will be very difficult for US diplomats and government representatives to get meeting appointments from counterparts, naturally all the diplomats will have some difficulties in the performance of their Job.

Q: Won’t it harm the relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey (I mean some critical Aliyev’s words in address of Turkish Prime-Minister) and some other countries (Russia, Iran, Israel)?

A: Of course words of key figures are important in international relations. But relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan are not ordinary relations between two countries. It is much more than that. And we should understand the words of President Aliyev as a message to US and West over Turkey.
