'Delay In Appointing Envoy Of US To Azerbaijan Harms Bilateral Relations'

E-mail Print PDF

This year 'has been a continual frustration', on Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.

The delay in appointing an ambassador to Azerbaijan inevitably harms bilateral relations and makes it very difficult for the US to play the role of an honest broker in conflict resolution', US analyst on South Caucasus and Middle East issues, Paul Kubicek, professor at the Department of Political Science of Oakland University said.

The analyst reminded that, this year 'has been a continual frustration', on Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.

He believes this year there weren’t huge progresses on the conflict resolution from both sides. 'Moreover, the international community has not really used either enough carrots or sticks to move ahead with some sort of compromise', he argued.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kubicek believes that 'it may simply not be important enough for either the US or Russia to really address in a concerted way':

'If outside powers like the US, Russia, and Turkey could forge a common approach and put pressure on the various parties, there might be progress, but I do not foresee this in the near term'.
