Interview with Bahar Muradova, Milli Majlis vice speaker.

Q: What do you think about the outcomes of 2010 for Azerbaijan?

A: On the whole, Azerbaijan is successfully completing 2010-the year, which was considered difficult for the rest of the world. Azerbaijan is successfully completing the year in political, economic and social sense and in terms of expanding and strengthening its influence on the international arena. This year Azerbaijan held several international events. Within a year Azerbaijan voiced its position during the events of international organizations on both the level of the president and the parliament. But, however, the most important was that Azerbaijan expanded its opportunities and influence in the region. Today Azerbaijan is a leader in South Caucasus and any projects are impossible without our country. In this connection, 2010 can be perceived as a year of achievements in all spheres. We can learn about the scales of this success while hearing the state report in January 2011 about the socioeconomic development of the country in 2010.

Naturally, parliamentary elections became the main event of 2010 in Azerbaijan. At these elections the Azerbaijani people again demonstrated loyalty to the policy of Heydar Aliyev, showing trust to the candidates of the New Azerbaijan party, chaired by President Ilham Aliyev.

Q: What do you think about the outcomes of 2010 in terms of Karabakh settlement?

A: Naturally, 2010 can be assessed as the year of intensifying efforts to resolve Karabakh conflict. 2010 was marked with the intensive discussion of the problem both between the presidents and their plenipotentiary representatives and frequent visits of the Minsk Group co-chairs to the region and discussing the conflict on the level of international organizations. But, unfortunately, no success was attain in the result. Anyway, I think this all had a sufficient impact on expanding potential of the Azerbaijani diplomacy. In 2010 we witnessed Azerbaijan’s loyalty to its commitments before the international organizations. We also witnessed that Azerbaijan adopted the plan of settling the Karabakh conflict, while the opposite part, that is Armenia, has not yet voiced its position. In this respect, Armenia is in a more complicated position than Azerbaijan because it has not yet stated its position. Therefore, I think it is under international pressure. In this respect, I am sure that diplomatic success was work in Azerbaijan’s favor in 2011, as well.

Q: What can be expected from the coming 2011 for Azerbaijan?

A: We are meeting 2011 on basis of our success in all spheres. The achievements, reached so far, make it possible to state further continuation of this development in 2011. I think the work Azerbaijan carried out in 2010 has become a serious foundation for our successful activity in 2011.
