Azerbaijan-Turkey agreement to counterbalance Armenia-Russia strategic cooperation.

The ratification of the agreement on strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Turkey by the Azerbaijani parliament aimed to show the relations between the two states are stable, expert in Turkic studies and senior expert of Political Research Institute Levon Hovsepyan told a press conference o December 25.

“The agreement between Azerbaijan and Turkey on strategic partnership and mutual assistance is a legal document on the formation of a bilateral alliance. The document indicates that the parties will offer mutual assistance to each other in case one of them undergoes armed attack by a third state or a group of states. Besides, special attention is paid to the military-technical cooperation, establishment of infrastructure with the view of joint military operations, provision of the armed forces with necessary equipment, etc,” the expert said.

Hovespyan stressed, according to Azeri experts, the Turkey-Azerbaijan agreement is counterbalance to the Armenia-Russia strategic cooperation.

Referring to the possible deployment of a Turkish military base in Nakhchivan, Hovsepyan stressed this is not realistic.

Turkey always supported Azerbaijan and signing of military agreement will contribute to further deepening of bilateral ties, military expert Artsrun Hovhanisyan told the journalists.

According to him, Turkey’s assistance to Azerbaijan was tangible even during the Karabakh war. “Now Armenia should be on alert as such agreement was signed,” he added.
