E-mail Print PDF

Armenian Turkologist Artak Shakaryan said that focusing very much on Washington about recognition of so called Armenian genocide is one of the misteks of Armenia.

Reminding the resolutions that US Senate and House of Representatives passed in 1970 and 80s regarding to 1915 incidents, Shakaryan said that usage of the term “genocide” by US President Barack Obama have theoretically no significant role.

According to the report of Tert.am, Shakaryan also thinks that if Obama does use the term, it will strengthen Armenia's position at the international level. “It will at the same time not give any judicial advantages,” Shakaryan added.

"We don't have a strong lobby in US as we like to think," said he, adding that the Armenian lobby is powerful only in California and Massachusetts.

"What we have is just a group of congressmen who, yes, do exert pressure about this of that issue,” said he.
