Turkish MP Mustafa Kabakci is sure that the border with Armenia will not be opened until progress is made on resolution of the Karabakh conflict.
"Azerbaijan and Turkey expect definite steps from Armenia on Karabakh. If Armenia takes definite steps in this direction, Ankara and Baku will also take steps towards Armenia. As long as the occupation of Azerbaijani land continues and Armenia still takes a non-constructive stance in the negotiations, no steps should be expected from Turkey”, the chairman of the Turkish-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group deputy, Mustafa Kabakci, told 1news.az.
As for the Turkish parliament's ratification of the agreement with Azerbaijan on strategic partnership and mutual assistance, the ruling Justice and Development Party MP said this document would probably be ratified before the elections.
“There is not a single deputy in the Turkish parliament, who would be against the ratification of this agreement. I think that in the near future this agreement will be put on the agenda of the Turkish parliament."
He said that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was expected to visit Baku very soon to hold the first session of the two countries' Strategic Cooperation Council.
"I think that during the visit the sides will sign an agreement to cancel the visa regime between the countries. The leaders of our countries, respected President Gul, Prime Minister Erdogan and President Ilham Aliyev, attach very great importance to the development and expansion of ties between our countries. I think they will further promote the development of our relations," Kabakci said.
