Turkey launched projects to cooperate with its neighbors in constructing dams over rivers that traverse its borders, World Bulletin reported.
Turkey plans to construct 18 dams on the rivers on its borders with Iraq, Syria, Iran, Georgia, Bulgaria and Greece, governmental officials told Cihan news agency on the conditions of anonymity. Turkey will construct dams with all neighbors except for Armenia.
The foundation for the first dam on the Orontes River flowing from Syria to Turkey will be laid on January 31. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will participate in the ceremony.
