The EU is concerned over run of resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso told journalists.

"At yesterday's meeting with PresidentIlham Aliyev, we discussed this issue along with other important issues. I expressed my deep concern over the plight of people affected by the conflict," Barroso said.

The EU, he said, supports the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

"We fully support the OSCE Minsk Group's efforts to resolve the conflict," Barroso said.

The EU, is ready to continue to provide political assistance in resolving the conflict, he said.

"We stand ready to provide technical assistance in rebuilding infrastructure following the final settlement agreement will be achieved," Barroso said.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.

Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France, and the U.S. - are currently holding the peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
