Editor-in-chief of Nouvelles d’Armenie Magazine Ara Toranyan:
Azerbaijan’s ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to France Elchin Amirbeyov has today published an article in the daily newspaper Le Monde in reply to the editor-in-chief of Nouvelles d’Armenie Magazine Ara Toranyan.
The article reads that Ara Toranyan introduces the distorted form of what actually happened between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
'Actually the occupation by Armenia of Nagorno Karabakh and seven adjacent regions of Azerbaijan Republic (approximately 20% of Azerbaijan’s territory) resulted in the death of thousands of Azerbaijanis, let alone one million Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons. During the negotiations carried out under the leadership of OSCE Minsk Group since 1992 Armenia has never admitted the release of even a part of these territories, on the contrary pursued the policy of artificial settlement there. Azerbaijan refers to the decisions and resolutions of the UN Security Council, OSCE, Council of Europe, European Parliament and other international organizations and remains committed to solving this conflict fairly and peacefully.'
Le Monde published Nouvelles d’Armenie Magazine editor-in-chief Ara Toranyan’s open letter 'Paris casts Armenians' on December 29, 2010. In his letter, Toranyan expressed his protest against the French political elite and even accused them in serving Pan-Turkist interests. The protest was caused by some details revealed by WikiLeaks about France, which were not to Armenians’ heart content. Ara Toranyan accused French President Nicolas Sarkozy in betraying Armenians and not fulfilling the commitments taken before the Armenian community of France concerning the law on criminal responsibility for denial of so-called 'Armenian genocide'.
On April 24, 2007 during his campaign for presidency, Nicolas Sarkozy promised to the Armenian voters that he will call on Senate to adopt this draft law and insist on this issue. WikiLeaks said diplomatic adviser to Elysee Jean-David Levitte told his Turkish counterparts in Ankara on May 29, 2007 that 'Sarkozy will do so that the draft law on criminal responsibility for denial of Armenian genocide will be lost in the Senate'
The author also focused attention on other interesting publication by WikiLeaks that French diplomat Roland Galharague had discussions with his US counterpart William Burns about Nagorno Karabakh conflict and he acknowledged that strong Armenian Diaspora in France prevent peace proposals for the solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
In his absurd letter, Ara Toranyan tried to describe Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan as an Armenian territory, which demands independence, but suffer from hostility and war threats by Turkey-Azerbaijan tandem. Then the author said Armenians became victims of Pan-Turkist interests in France and complained that it is not known how long this experience will continue.
