Chief of Human Rights Institute, Azerbaijani MP Ayten Mustafayeva commented on statements of some Iranian figures regarding the internal affairs of Azerbaijan.
'Azerbaijan is a secular tolerant country where there are no problems with suppressing someone, especially Muslims. Definite circles in Iran are trying to create a stir around the Islam issue in Azerbaijan, however, this has no serious ground, which is why all their attempts were in vain.
Azerbaijan has always been open to all nations and religions. We hold definite interreligious and international forums in terms of dialogue of civilizations', Mustafayeva said.
'On the contract, it seems that logically, these circles in Iran should first support Azerbaijan and condemn Armenian aggression against the Muslim population of Azerbaijan, however, unfortunately, the Iranian side holds not quite an unambiguous policy in this issue and has factually raised its relations with occupant Armenia almost to a strategic level.
On this background, Iranian mass media and society hold an anti-Azerbaijani campaign to incite interreligious and international clashes in Azerbaijan', the deputy said.
