Armenian’s “Genocide resolution”, which was strongly rejected by the US Congress last year, appeared in California Local Assembly this week, APA reported.
Pro-Armenian Assemblyman Mike Gattom, who is one of the authors of the new draft resolution, stated that both California Assembly and US Congress should discuss these issues by 24th of April, anniversary of 1915th events.
In their tern, US Azeris and Turks declared that they will fight against the proposal.
Meanwhile, Turkish Diaspora in US remembers victims of Armenian terrorism January 27, 1973 in Santa Barbara, California.
“Gourgen Yanikian, an elderly US citizen of Armenian origin, assassinates Los Angeles Turkish Consul General, Mehmet Baydar, and Vice Consul, Bahadir Demir, after inviting the Turkish diplomats to his hotel suite to present the Turkish Government with a "gift." Soon after killing the diplomats, Yanikian surrendered to police and was tried in the Superior Court of the State of California for the County of Santa Barbara, and was convicted of first-degree murder, and sentenced to life imprisonment. Ten years later, California Governor George Deukmejian, who is of Armenian descent, orders the release of Yanikian, who dies of natural causes soon thereafter”, Turkish Diaspora members remind in their commemoration letter.
Both Azeri and Turkish Diasporas condemn these acts of violence against innocent individuals and remember these tragedies with great sorrow.
