Armenian MFA Accuses Azerbaijan Of Being Destructive

Armenia is striving for peace and stability in the region.

No permission is needed to execute the right for self-determination, Armenian Deputy FM Shavarsh Kocharyan told in the interview with Armenian Yerkir Medi TV channel.

“People who want to self-determine must not get permission of anyone else, its self-determination cannot be restricted by the intention of any country”, Kocharyan said.

He noted that self-determination is one of the four UN goals, while territorial integrity is a principle aimed to achieve this goal. “However, territorial integrity can never be opposed to the right for self-determination”, Kocharyan said.

While speaking about the processes in South Sudan and Nagorno Karabakh, Armenian deputy foreign minister noted that the main feature of the Karabakh issue is that the referendum in Nagorno Karabakh, which fully responded to international law and complied with the Soviet legislation, was held in 1991.

On the other hand, Kocharyan said, it is impossible to state any link between South Sudan and Karabakh.

He noted that the same tendency is recorded in the negotiation process as well.

Through hampering the complete participation of Karabakh in the negotiation process, Azerbaijan shows that it is not inclined to settle the Karabakh problem through negotiations, Armenian deputy foreign minister believes.

“When we face such a complicated problem with diametrically opposite images and approaches, naturally, the negotiation process envisions definite compromises rather but by no means unilateral concessions. Primarily, during the negotiations the parties must be represented in full, while in this case the Nagorno Karabakh Republic is not represented so far. This signals that in fact Azerbaijan is not inclined to settle the problem through negotiations”, Kocharyan said,

“Azerbaijan is trying to fix its destructive policy by militaristic appeals, arms race and anti-Armenian propaganda”, Kocharyan.

“It is obvious that we are dealing with the subject, which does not want to settle the problem”, Kocharyan said.

He noted that Armenia is striving for peace and stability in the region and mediators and world centers are also striving for that. According to the deputy foreign minister, Azerbaijan continues its like despite appeals of superpowers for peace.

In this sense, Kocharyan noted  that it is necessary to use a moratorium for arms supply, intensify diplomatic pressure, in particular, make definite public statements, which could reach the Azerbaijani population.

“If these steps do not yield a definite result, we will have the only way out-the international recognition of Karabakh”, Kocharyan said
