US, EU Concern Over Karabakh 'Has Diminished'

E-mail Print PDF

An Armenian political scientist has said that the US and EU have lost interest in Nagorno-Karabakh, as the conflict is insoluble.

There is no reason to believe that settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can be sped up, Alexander Iskandaryan, director of the Caucasus Institute, said.

“The attention of superpowers towards the Karabakh conflict is nothing new. However, the US and EU concern over the conflict has diminished,” he continued, according to PanARMENIAN.Net.

"The top politicians realize that the conflict is insoluble. The objective of the international community is to maintain the current stage of the talks.”

Iskandaryan's remarks come after US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton discussed the Karabakh conflict during meetings with the Azerbaijani foreign minister and Armenian president in Munich on 5 February.

Azerbaijani commentator Rasim Musabayov sees the meetings as a sign of increased US interest in a resolution.
