Armenian Visitor Figures To Turkey Up

E-mail Print PDF

Armenian visitor figures to Turkey increased 7% in 2010, compared with 2009.

A total of 69,323 Armenian citizens visited Turkey last year,News.am reported, citing figures from the Armenian Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

A 30% increase in the number of Armenian citizens visiting Turkey was recorded in January, compared with January 2009. A 15% increase was registered in December.

Turkey and Armenia do not have diplomatic relations and the Turkish-Armenian land border is closed. Nevertheless, there are direct flights between the Armenian capital Yerevan and Istanbul, and road links through Georgia.

The two countries signed protocols on normalizing relations in October 2009, but rapprochement stalled last year when both the Turkish and Armenian parliaments refused to ratify the protocols.
