It would be much more useful for the Armenians to feel shame for spilling the first blood than celebrating separatism, Director of the Center for Political Innovation and Technology, political scientist Mubariz Ahmedoglu told.

On Feb. 20, 1988, the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh, which had autonomous status as a part of the Azerbaijani SSR, made the decision to withdraw from the Azerbaijani SSR and join the Armenian SSR.

The political scientist said that the official Armenian version of how the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict started seems to be that the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh declared independence in 1991 after a referendum, and Azerbaijan attacked them after not acknowledging the result.

"In fact, this is nothing more than another example of disrespect to the world community. The Armenians are used to this," he said.

He added that the events developed very differently.

"The leader of the separatist regime of Nagorno Karabakh B. Sahakian's estimations on the events is a clear indication that the events developed contrary to the official version of the Armenians, or that there are two versions in the issue of Nagorno Karabakh's independence.

The leadership of Armenia and all Armenians worldwide refer the beginning of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to February 20, 1988.

On February 20, 1988 the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, having the status of autonomy within Azerbaijan SSR, made the decision to withdraw from the Azerbaijani SSR and enter the Armenian SSR. Notorious economist and academician Aganbekyan and Armenians of France played the original role of the provocateurs in this issue.

The residents of Askeran and Aghdam held a peaceful rally in Askeran region two days after the decision of the Council of People's MPs of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast to withdraw from the Azerbaijani SSR and enter the Armenian SSR. Armenians opened fire and killed two young Azerbaijanis. Deputy Attorney General of the USSR F. Katusev, speaking on central television, confirmed killing of two Azerbaijanis, the fact that shedding the first blood in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, " he said.

He said that this fact indicates that the official beginning of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict dates back to February 20, 1988. But the war by launched the Armenians must be counted from February 22, 1988, that is, before the events in Sumgait.

"The lie invented by Armenians earlier, has the opposite effect now," he said.
