West does not pay the due attention to Karabakh.

The expert of the Royal Institute of International relations Chatham House (Great Britain) James Nicksey believes that the West does not pay the due attention to Karabakh, though Karabakh conflict is the most dangerous in the region.

“Most experts believe that the Karabakh conflict is the most dangerous in the country, more dangerous than South Ossetian, Abkhazian, Trans-Dniestrian”, Nicksey told reporters on Tuesday.

Nonetheless, according to the expert, West’s ‘sight’ is directed not on Karabakh, but on Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan.

“I, as an expert on the Caucasus, believe that it is bad but I have to recognize that Karabakh is very small compared to other regions. It is bad that the West does not pay attention to it and, unfortunately, something terrible may happen like in Ruanda, Kosovo or Iraq”, the expert said.

As for whether it means that the West will pay attention to the Karabakh conflict only if there is a bloodshed, the expert said: ‘yes, this is true’.

Nicksey added that little is known about the Karabakh conflict today.

“There is the Minsk process, which almost died out, it could be better if EU took part in the process instead of France, but it will help little. To settle this conflict, both parties must want to put an end to the conflict, treat themselves with self0criticism and understand each other’s positions. The West can help in this”, Nicksey said.
