Khojaly Wiped Off By Disaster - Member Of Mexico Congress

Conference on the theme 'No more genocide' was held at the Memory and Tolerance Museum in Mexico City.

Conference was held within the framework of 'Justice for Khojaly' international campaign on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of Khojaly genocide, Azerbaijani embassy in Mexico reports.

Azerbaijani ambassador Ilgar Mukhtarov, chairman of Mexico-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group, parliamentarian Marcos Perez, Coordinator of the Human Rights Commission under the Government of Mexico Leonardo Mier and coordinator of the “Justice for Khojaly” campaign in Mexico Ximena Holguin addressed the event.

Making a keynote speech at the conference Ximena Holguin gave information about Khojaly genocide and the activity of the “Justice for Khojaly” campaign for informing the international community about the cruel crimes committed in Khojaly.

Prior to the speech of Ambassador Ilgar Mukhtarov, the participants of the conference commemorated the victims of Khojaly massacre in a minute silence. Ambassador spoke about Armenia’s aggression against Azerbaijan, historical roots of the conflict, ethnic cleansing and deportation policy pursued against our people in the past two centuries, demonstrated video and photos describing Khojaly genocide, historical maps of Azerbaijan. He spoke about the separation of Azerbaijan’s historical territories, deportation that happened in the 20th century and the results of Armenia’s aggression against our country, noted that Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan was among the culprits of Khojaly genocide.

Chairman of the Mexican-Azerbaijani Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Marcos Perez called Khojaly events genocide and said that 'Khojaly was wiped off the map as a result of man-made actions, not in the aftermath of natural disaster'.

He noted that word of Khojaly assumed great importance for Azerbaijan and said that the destructed city would be always live in hearts of people. Marcos Perez said that the Mexican parliament would not stay indifferent to the mentioned events and would take a just position toward Khojaly genocide.

Coordinator of Mexican Human Rights Commission L.Mier thanked for invitation, said the Commission did not stay indifferent to crimes committed against humanity in Khojaly and noted that Mexican Human Rights Commission was ready to cooperate in direction of investigation of Khojaly events. He noted the importance of commemoration of people died as a result of crimes and occupation. Moreover, he noted the importance of taking care of people faced different physical, moral and material deprivation during this terrible incident.

Mier said that though the inhuman crimes took place in Khojaly was proved at the international level, these events were still called only as tragedy and assumed great importance in cooperation with International Court and Human Rights institutes for prevention of occurrence of such crimes in any part of the world.

Moreover, documentary about Khojaly genocide prepared in Spanish by Azerbaijani embassy in Mexico and photos reflecting the activity of 'Justice for Khojaly' campaign were demonstrated at the event, as well as information was given about www.justiceforkhojaly.org website presented in Mexico in 2010.

Shirts with writing 'Justicia para Jodyali' (Justice for Khojaly), disks of documentary 'Khojaly genocide', booklet about Khojaly tragedy and badges were presented to conference participants. The conference participants put their signatures to 'Petition to world leaders' book.

Chain of events will be continued within the framework of “Justice for Khojaly” international campaign.
