An event on the 19th anniversary of Khojaly tragedy was held at the ombudsman's office.
According to the news service for the ombudsman, the victims of the tragedy were commemorated in a minute of silence.
'The tragedy in Khojaly has become a bloody page in the policy of genocide and ethnic cleansing, held by Armenian nationalists against the Turkish and Azerbaijani people throughout centuries. For its cruelty and inhumanity it has become a crime against humankind.
By committing these massacres, Armenians wanted to break the fighting spirit of the Azerbaijani people, make it reconcile with the occupation of our historical lands. However, they never attained their goal', ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova said.
'The territorial integrity of Azerbaijan must be restored, the violated rights of Azerbaijani refugees and displaced persons must be restored and they must return home, prisoners and hostages must be released, international structures must apply sanctions against the Armenian state', the statement reads.
