An event over 19th anniversary of genocide in Khojaly was held at Houston University on 25 February 2011.
Professor of the university, doctor of political sciences Ryan Kennedy, and member of the Directors’ Board of the American Azerbaijanis Council, co-founder of the US Azerbaijanis Network Yusif Babanly spoke at the event.
Kennedy spoke of the frozen conflicts in the territory of the former USSR, in particular, the interstate conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, compared to the separatist conflicts in Georgia and Moldova. In his report, Yusif Babanlu told about the history of Karabakh and Armenia’s territorial claims to Azerbaijan and conflict escalation by the side of Armenia, committing genocide of Azerbaijani civilians of Khojaly by the Armenian armed divisions and 366th division.
The film “Genocide in Khojaly” by Heydar Aliyev Foundation was shown afterwards. At the end of the event, association president Irada Akhundova thanked the Houston University on behalf of the Baku-Houston Twin Cities Association.
The event was held under support of the Association of Azerbaijani Students of the Houston University, headed by Pari Ismaylova, Baku-Houston Twin Cities Association and American Azerbaijani Council.
