The recent observations show that the friendship between Armenia and Iran is gaining steam.
It has not yet come to the point of erecting a monument to the Iranian-Armenian friendship but it seems to be halfway. Some 35 million of Azerbaijanis and about 300,000 Armenians reside in Iran, by difficult figures. To all appearances, the Iranian authorities must be more sympathetic to Azerbaijanis, who have always provided the reliable foundation of Iranian statehood, but, alas…
Now Iran is positioning itself as a peacekeeper in the region. However, Azerbaijan still cannot forget the results of its previous peacekeeping attempt- occupation of Shusha.
In addition, currently, Iran pretends to be condemning aggressor Armenia but in fact it openly helps it. How else can we assess the news about expanding bilateral cooperation between Iran and Armenia?
Let’s take a look at the recent news from this series. For example, the statement of Iran’s first vice president Mohammad Reza Rahimi while meeting Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Armen Movsisyan: “Friendly Armenian-Iranian ties are a good prerequisite for development of bilateral ties in different spheres. All agreements on gas and electric power must be executed quickly. The construction of the Iran-Armenia railroad meets the interests of the two countries”. But the top was his statement “Armenians and Muslims coexist peacefully throughout the world, Iranians and Armenians have lived in friendship for long”.
It is surprising that when speaking about the friendship between Muslims and Armenians, the third figure in the top hierarchy of Iran forgets that Armenians violate the rights of Azerbaijanis, holding Nagorno Karabakh and seven adjacent regions of Azerbaijan under occupation and building their policy on cultivating enmity towards Azerbaijanis.
However, these thoughts seem to be of low importance for Iran, otherwise, it would never feed aggressor Armenia both literally and in a figurative sense. The construction of the new third high-voltage energy distribution line between Iran and Armenia to end in summer 2012 is underway. In addition, Yerevan and Tehran have achieved agreements on construction of a pipeline for transit of Iranian oil products to Armenia. The pipeline will be built to Tebriz and extend to the border with Armenia, which will help the Armenian side, which occupied part of Azerbaijan, to cover part of its need for oil products by means of Iran. This means that in case of possible war for liberation of Karabakh, Armenian tanks and armored hardware will work on Iranian fuel.
President Serzh Sargsyan, while receiving special envoy of the Iranian president, deputy foreign minister Mohammadreza Rauf Sheybani, said the relations between these two countries continue developing in the atmosphere of mutual trust. Meanwhile, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is planning to visit Armenia soon.
The bilateral visits of the speakers of parliaments and other officials of Armenia and Iran are also expected. In addition, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad invited Serzh Sargsyan to Iran to celebrate Novruz… A real idyll!
Both political and economic. Iran sells 1000 cubic meters of gas for $120 to Armenia though the current gas price on the world market is $340. Why is Iran so kind to Armenia?
Is this not the secret-open willingness of Iran, which sees Azerbaijan’s strengthening, to support Armenia as a counterbalance to Azerbaijan? Iran does not need strong Azerbaijan and the provocations of Sahar TV channel prove this.
Here we see the coincidence of interests-Armenian authorities also hope they will be able to create enmity in Iran’s relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey, especially now when Armenia is weakening both politically and economically, while Azerbaijan is strengthening its positions.
How long will its powers assist the aggressor under the mask of peacekeepers? Or are these double standards the peculiarities of Iranian vision-to see the smoke far away (for example, somewhere in Palestine), but not a flame nearby… allowing Armenia to make use of the last effective card in opposing Azerbaijan?
