During his visit to Germany, Turkish Premier Recep Erdogan gave an interview to Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung.
Turkish mass media published excerpts from the interview.
'Turkey attaches importance to regional peace, stability and security. That is the reason why we launched the normalization process. The protocols signed on October 10, 2009, were the greatest achievement on this way. They contain agreed viewpoints which can have a positive impact on the South Caucasus. With all that, normalization is a most complicated and sensitive process for both Turks and Armenians.
The 1915 events are a confrontation between the memories of Armenians and Turks that had lived together for 800 years. Turkey is not ignoring the sufferings experienced by Armenians. We object to one side presenting the other as perpetrator of genocide. We believe that the Armenian-Turkish historical committee, to be set up under the Armenian-Turkish protocols signed in Zurich, will play an important role', Erdogan says.
