Bill on Armenian Allegations to be Discussed in Dutch Parliament

E-mail Print PDF

A new stage of discussions of a bill making it crime to deny the Armenian genocide allegations has begun in the Dutch parliament.

According to the report of News.am, the document presented by the “Christian Union” party in 2006 has not so far been supported by the parliamentary majority. Opponents believe that the current legislation already provided for penalties for denial of so called Armenian genocide. There is also disagreement on defining the term “genocide.”

However, during the recent meeting of “Christian Union”, a number of organizations, including the Israeli Center Information and Documentation on Israel (CIDI) and the Federation of the Armenian ogniazatiion in the Netherlands, spoke for introducing criminal punishment for denial of so called Armenian genocide.

The bill is expected to be submitted to the plenary session of the parliament before the end of this year.
