Azerbaijani and Armenian women can say “No to war!” and achieve peace through negotiations.
The statement came from Belgian senator, initiator of the project “To peace via women” Dominique Tilmans during the news conference in Yerevan on “The role of women in settling the conflicts”.
She said women are mostly peace-loving and can play a significant role in processes on maintaining peace and negotiations. The senator stressed the current implementation of the project “To peace via women”, created on the basis of resolution 1325 “On the role of women in the process of peace and security”, adopted by the UN Security Council on 21 September 2000, involving Armenia and Azerbaijan around the Karabakh settlement. “Women of Armenia and Azerbaijan can say “No to war!” and achieve peace through negotiations”, Tilmans said. She believes the Caucasian women must be widely involved in politics and play an equal role with men
As for the missing people during Karabakh war, she said such persons exist from both Armenian and Azerbaijani side. She said mothers suffer equally among both Armenians and Azerbaijanis. According to the senator, the cooperation within the framework of this project can play a role in finding the Karabakh war missing participants. “I met many young people in both Armenia and Azerbaijan who expressed readiness to participate in case of a new war. It is clear that everyone is ready to defend his homeland, but peace is needed for prosperity and flourishing of a country. Young people can play a great role in promoting peace and I think we are doing a great job for Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as overall Caucasus”, Tilmans said.
