'If the snipers are removed, parties would have a positive result'.
Foreign Minister of Lithuania, the OSCE Chairperson-in-office Andronius Azubalis said in an interview with DELFI portal after his recent trip to the South Caucasus countries, that he is extremely concerned about the armed race in Azerbaijan and Armenia.
He also added that one can see a certain positive development of reforms and democracy in each country taken separately. But Mr Azubalis thinks that the processes might develop faster if not the tension and the frozen conflicts. As for Nagornyy Karabakh conflict, he said there is a certain space for moving forward after the Sochi meeting.
As for the Minsk Group, it is functioning though the co-chairs are often criticized...But the Minsk Group cannot resolve the conflict. It can offer any plans, but if there is no political will of all the parties to the conflict, the conflict will not be settled, he said.
As for the suggestion to the parties to withdraw snipers, Azubalis said these are just small steps towards trust. He also added if the snipers are removed, the parties would have a positive result.
