E-mail Print PDF

Unknown people colored the “Monument of Humanity” symbolizing Turkish-Armenian friendship in Kars, Turkey, with three different colors, Turkey’s Ihlas news agency report.

Local residents set out two leads: the monument was colored in a protest against its removal or it was painted only to draw attention to it.

Kars municipality passed decision on February 1 to remove the “Monument of Humanity”, which building started in 2008 as a symbol of the Turkish-Armenian friendship, but has not been completed yet. While being on a visit to Kars, Turkish Prime Minister Receb Tayyib Erdogan said all strange constructions contradicted to the historic-architectural style should be removed. He called the above-mentioned monument as ugly construction.
