The municipal authorities of the Turkish town of Kars have started the dismantlement of the Monument to Peace and Humanity symbolizing friendship between the Armenian and Turkish nations.
The decision to dismantle the monument was backed by municipal board members representing the ruling Justice and Development Party, as well the Nationalistic Movement and 8 opposition party members.
It came after Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the monument monstrous after visiting Kars earlier this year.
