Armenians Build Their History On Falsifications - Official

'Armenians cite many causes to protract the negotiation process'.

Chief of department for foreign relations of the Presidential Administration Novruz Mammadov believes that the world community turns a blind eye on Armenia’s claims and actions in the region, though they go contrary to the norms of international law and historical facts.

'The main points that is a focus of negotiations to settle the Karabakh conflict today is that though the world community, international organizations, all countries with US and EU on top recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and repeat it occasionally, they turn a blind eye on the occupation of Azerbaijani lands. They do not express their firm stance on this issue in terms of norms of international law', Mammadov said.

He called for exerting pressure on Armenia in settling the conflict, however, sometimes Armenia even received aid, loans and so on.

'It is the main issue in the conflict settlement today. Some see it, others do not, but it is the main point. All the same, though the negotiation process involves three Minsk Group co-chairs, there is no balance in participation of the states.

The Russian president has been active in this processes over the past year and a half, in an apparent effort to demonstrate his interest in settling the conflict and taking definite steps in this direction. However, this has not been effective yet.

Though other countries are also co-chairing in the Minsk Group to a certain extent, they confine themselves with only external observation. Frankly speaking, the co-chairs’ will is not enough to settle the conflict', he said.

As for whether any agreement had been achieved in negation process regarding the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, withdrawal of Armenian troops from Azerbaijani lands and status of Nagorno Karabakh, Mammadov said no agreement has yet been achieved on this issue.

'They would have been no problems in achieving such an agreement. Though it must be settled and add to the agenda of the negotiation process, Armenian side, Armenian leadership does not face pressure on part of either co-chairs or the world community and international organizations. Meanwhile, they try to preserve status-quo and protract the negotiation process', he said.

Mammadov noted that Armenians cite many causes to protract the negotiation process.

'Armenians have built their history on falsifications. There are serious sources in both America and our region in this view.  These sources and materials were written not by Azerbaijanis. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, American, Russian and European researchers wrote that history is a way different from how Armenians describe it. However, despite this, they cite different grounds now.

It came to the point that under pretense of keeping Karabakh independent, they hold seven other regions of Azerbaijan under control, in an attempt to use them as a buffer area for a while.

It goes contrary to all norms of international law. If today superpowers, US, EU and their main structure NATO, are so indifferent to these issues, how can they pass a resolution against Libya and launch its execution on the same day, though they did not get unanimous support?

Meanwhile, the resolutions on Azerbaijan adopted 20 years ago were unanimous. Why is NATO not willing to condemn the occupation in the European area, but is doing this in Africa. We strongly regret this', Mammadov said.

According to the presidential official, Azerbaijan does not deserve such an attitude.

'Azerbaijan is the only state in the post-Soviet area which implements successful projects with EU and Europe. We conduct political reforms, take serious steps for integration and conduct serious activity to fight terrorism.

But, unfortunately, for some reason the world turns a blind eye on it and rejects to give the due assessment', Novruzov said.
