PACE Prepares Draft Resolution On Threat Of Metsamor Nuclear Plant

A draft resolution warning of a threat of Armenia’s Metsamor nuclear plant is being elaborated at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), chairman of the international relations committee of the Azerbaijani parliament, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov told. He said “the document prepared by the efforts of Azerbaijan and the countries sharing its position will describe that what source of danger are the European nuclear plants for the region and the continent. Metsamor plant will also be included in this list. Particularly after the tragic events in Japan, everyone understands that such plants are dangerous for humanity. Therefore we will demand the closing of Metsamor nuclear plant in Armenia”.

The lawmaker said Azerbaijan and all regional countries realize what is the location of Soviet-built nuclear plant in the seismically areas. He said Armenia with its poor economy is not able to serve this plant. Samad Seyidov noted that the work on this document is underway and it is expected to be discussed soon.
