Halacoglu: The Issue on So-Called Armenian Genocide Has Ended

E-mail Print PDF

“The recent developments in the Middle East are connected with the economic growth of China. Foreign exchange reserves of China, which has cheap workforce, have reached $2.8 trillion, $1.9 trillion of it has been invested in the securities market of the US. So, China has taken control of a part of the local economy of America,” former chairman of Turkish Historical Society, Professor Yusuf Halacoglu told APA. According to him, the US, which is incapable of carrying out military operation against China, has begun to pursue a new policy in the Middle East.

“The US has started drawing a new map in the Middle East, Afghanistan war, military operations in Iraq etc. But they did not produce necessary results, the countries such as Iran, Libya selling oil to China continued pursuing this policy. Therefore, mass actions began in the Middle East and a vast operation started in these regions with the support of the US. Only Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi could resist it. The process has weakened, otherwise pro-American and pro-European forces would have come to power in all Middle East countries in short time. As a result of it, America would have taken the control of oil transportation to China and in exchange for any pressure against it the US would have gained opportunity to use oil as a tool. This factor stands in the essence of the happenings in the Middle East,” he said.

Yusuf Halacoglu said the US forced Turkey to the rapprochement with Armenia.

“US wants to form a sphere of influence in the Caucasus. But you know that despite the establishment of good relations with Georgia, Armenia is still under the control of Russia. Therefore, America with the help of Turkey wanted to include Armenia into its sphere of influence, ensure its representation in the new bloc. America forced Turkey to the rapprochement with Armenia, but did not take one point into consideration. Turkey was one of the first countries to recognize Armenia. But as Armenia occupied Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, Turkey closed its borders with this country. The government under the pressure of the Turkish people was obliged to take a step back in the Armenian problem, the opening of the borders with Armenia was removed from the agenda. This problem has completely ended,” he said.

Professor noted that the West uses human rights factor only for its interests.

“The Western world speaks much about the human rights, but ignores internal displacement of one million Azerbaijanis. West forgets the conditions of these internally displaced persons, the causes of their leaving houses. They speak about human rights when it favors them. West ignores the filmed Khojaly genocide. They regard as genocide the killing of Armenians in 1915, 1918, while much more Ottoman Turks, Azerbaijani Turks were killed by Armenians in those years. There are sites of mass burial of the victims of the genocides committed by Armenians in Azerbaijan and Turkey, but there are no mass burial sites of Armenians in Azerbaijan or Turkey. Europe played a political game concerning the so-called “Armenian genocide”, but in the end they lost the game. AKP also removed the Armenian problem from the agenda, because the US began to pursue new policy in the Middle East. Remember the happenings in Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Syria, Libya. People’s revolts happened in these countries. With this the US intends to draw a new map in the Middle East. I am afraid some changes may also happen in Turkey. The government that will come to power – if we are also represented in this government – will take serious measures against it. We can not give way to Turkey’s separation, terrorism. But if the processes go on like this, AKP comes to power again, Turkey will have hard times. I suppose a new Kurdish state that will be later established in the Middle East will be the major foothold of the US. The US is trying to establish a state, which will help to control the entire Middle East. Israel is very small. A Kurdish state, which will be established from the parts separated from Northern Iraq, Turkey, will become a region able to control Iran, Turkey, the entire Middle East including Caucasus, the whole Turkic world. This is dangerous not only for Turkey, but for peoples, states of the region. All must be sensitive and pursue new strategies,” he said.

Halacoglu said that the world community doesn’t accept seriously the so-called “Armenian genocide” claims: “As you know, the adopted parliament laws have no legal force, From the other side the Turkish and Armenian diasporas have started a joint activity. As making the joint step, there is no doubt that the policy will be strengthened, because anyway Turkey is a bridge to the Middle Asia, and Azerbaijan is shining star, and is gradually strengthening. There are a great amount of oil-gas reserves in the Middle Asia. These reserves can be put up to the world market only from Turkey. Europe is also forced to come to an agreement with turkey in order to put an end the Russian energy dependence. It is impossible for Europe to buy Middle Asia’s oil and gas reserves without coming to an agreement with Turkey. The color of the dear is changed. You are informed about French Senate’s decision, the initiative was sounded in Hungarian Parliament on the recognition of Khojaly genocide. The US will gradually refuse from this policy, because we are witnessing the gradual fall of the European Union. The genocide claims which are used for non-admission of Turkey to the European Union have lost its significance, because Turkey also is not so appetitive for the admission to the EU. In reference to the US, America needs Turkey in its policy conducted in the Middle East, because the US has lost its prestige in the Middle East. Turkey, which will be able to ensure this sympathy, can not be left aside.

Professor thinks that the issue on so-called “Armenian genocide” has ended: “We can consider this issue finished, because in UN materials we have proved that the Armenians weren’t killed as a result of “Armenian genocide” in 1915. We said them to show the mass graveyard, they couldn’t do it, it is impossible for the international law to assess these incidents as a genocide. The Armenians are interested in getting compensation than the question “Were the genocide or not?”. They started to file lawsuit against the insurance companies. Imagine that the Europeans claim that there was genocide against Armenians, but they have no proof. This is a full political claim. But rather, there are undeniable proofs that the Armenians committed genocide against Turks. There are the documents on 1915-1918, as well as the Khojaly genocide which was committed recently and accepted by everybody as genocide i.e. there is logic that “those who have committed this genocide now could have committed it at that time”. If the world community is informed of such issues in a professional manner, the other governments will not approach seriously “Armenian genocide” claims.

Halacoglu said commented on his dismissal from the post of head of the Turkish History Organization: “one of the reasons of my dismissal from the post of head of Turkish History Organization was Armenia’s and US’ pressures. This step was made after the negotiations between Armenia, Turkey and the US. They were seeing me as an obstacle against “Armenian issue” and I really was an obstacle to this process. The negotiations between the diplomats of our Foreign Ministry and Armenian and US diplomats had been held in Switzerland before “Armenian issue”. Within these negotiations I was removed from my post upon Armenia’s and US demand. Why the Armenians were worried, why the US were worried?, naturally, it has the reasons, Because there was our dialogue with Armenian Diaspora. I said to the Armenian Diaspora that I can give them USD 20 mln instead of the opening of Boston archives. After hearing this proposal, the Armenian Diaspora said that they wanted to meet me. The Diaspora representative came to Turkey, we held a roundtable. Even chief of chancellery of their newspaper Hachik Muradian fixed a time for taking an interview from me. Actually, this could have been solved with $20 million. There would not remain any problem after opening of Boston archives. In exchange for it, the US would have been deprived of one of the important means of pressure against Turkey.

You know how Armenia “loves” me. That’s why Armenia and the US wanted my dismissal.”
