Armenian-Turkish process can be described as an “American-European Project”, Director of Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan said today that after upcoming June parliamentary elections in Turkey and USA “the United States will try to resume pressure on Ankara in order to reanimate the Armenian-Turkish process”.
“USA will try to resume direct pressure on Ankara, but Washington doesn’t have enough tools for it, since today USA needs Turkey more than Turkey needs USA,” Alexander Iskandaryan said.
Noting that the Armenian-Turkish process can be described as an “American-European project”, Alexander Iskandarian said also that Washington and Brussels have different pressure tools, and Europe rather an example of “soft force.”
“There can be only one variant in case with Europe: if Turkey is told that if it opens the border with Armenia today it will be accepted to the European Union tomorrow. But it’s impossible due to a number of reasons,” political scientist concluded.
