Operational Safety Review Team (OSART) Mission is due to visit the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant in Armenia this year.
Giovanni Verlini, Press and Public Information Officer of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said this in the interview to Mediamax.
OSART is an international team of experts conducting in-depth reviews of operational safety performance at a nuclear power plant.
“However, it should be noted that OSART mission is not an IAEA mission. Rather, it is an international mission coordinated by the IAEA,” Giovanni Verlini said.
In the interview to Mediamax, Giovanni Verlini stated that it is up to the state receiving an OSART mission to decide whether to make public the results of the mission. In addition, he said, it normally takes months for the final report to be drafted and shared with the state
“In many cases there has been a press conference at the end of an OSART mission in which some preliminary results are presented. However, I cannot possibly speculate whether this will also be the case in Armenia - again, it’s a decision that rests with the member state,” IAEA Press and Public Information Officer concluded.
