Azerbaijani MPs have commemorated Azerbaijanis who died 19 years ago during occupation of the ancient Azerbaijani city Shusha by Armenian armed divisions.

The suggestion to hold a moment of silence to commemorate the victims of Armenian terror came from Milli Majlis speaker Oqtay Asadov.

The chairman said the next anniversary of the Great Victory over Fascist Germany will be celebrated on 9 May.

'I have to note that Azerbaijani sons and daughters made a great contribution to Victory. In this view, I would like to congratulate the people of Azerbaijan on this day. I am sure that Azerbaijani people led by President Ilham Aliyev will soon be celebrating a new day of victory in the history of Azerbaijan to mark the liberation of Nagorno Karabakh', Asadov said.

The speaker also continued that 88th birthday of National Leader Heydar Aliyev will be marked on 10 May.

'Heydar Aliyev is among the most outstanding figures of Azerbaijan. He imbibed all positive features and creative energy of our people. Under his direct leadership, Azerbaijan turned into a flourishing country in the 21st century', the Milli Majlis chairman said.
