Interview of Gun.Az with Novruz Mammadov, head of international relations department at Azerbaijani Presidential Administration. The English version of the interview was published by News.AzQ: In your opinion, what is the reason for aggressive and inappropriate remarks by Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan about Azerbaijan?
A: I should admit that at first I did not want to comment on these remarks which are outright nonsense. But it is necessary to answer your question. There is a also a need to respond not to Shavarsh Kocharyan who holds a post in the Foreign Ministry, but those who stand behind him and make him talk this way. As Kocharyan is unable to do anything related to his post, he has been tasked to confuse these absurd thoughts about the conflict.
He has not expressed his stance on any particular issue so far. But now he wants to keep this post through false thoughts and slander about Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani President.
Q: So, Kocharyan is kind of herald of a criminal government in Armenia?
A: Kocharyan is well aware that he has no moral right to speak about Azerbaijani President. But he has no choice but fulfill the task assigned to him. But Kocharyan should not forget the following proverb - "The dog barks, the caravan goes on."
Kocharyan knows that Ilham Aliyev is an experienced politician and speaks several languages. He has studied fundamental sciences at one of the prestigious universities in the world. Even heads of state of some countries come to Azerbaijan to learn his thoughts about international and regional policy. It would be better for Kocharyan to compare Ilham Aliyev with separatist president who has never read a book in his lifetime and whose hands are stained in blood.
Q: In your view, why Armenian politicians constantly slander Azerbaijan?
A: The point is that Armenians are good at writing a history based on false data. Everyone knows that the history of Armenia has been written down based on wrong information. But they are so obsessed with this that they can see and hear nothing. But now they seem to seize a chance to change this image. But it will never work.
Q: It is no secret that Azerbaijan is a major target of Armenia’s lies. Many in Armenia and its diaspora are concerned about success of our country. May we say that the statements by officials like Shavarsh Kocharyan are meant for domestic public?
A: One could expert nothing from Kocharyan, the successor of Aram Andonyan and Suren Ayvazyan.
Aram Andonyan once collected fake photos and documents to raise awareness about so-called “genocide.” Famous Austrian scholar, historian Erich Faigl, who conducted historical research, confidential correspondence wrote as others: “Aram Andonyan knew that be he was written a lie.”
Suren Ayvazyan, who considers himself a professor, went even further to present “maps” of “Armenian state” developed “5 years ago.” Asked how he has developed these maps, he said that he close his eyes and draw the borders as he wanted and this book would be a textbook for our children in 50 years.
Now Kocharyan wants to go through their roads and puts forward claims by developing documents in Latin graphics. Kocharyan knows that the Armenian state has never existed. He also knows that Armenians could have failed to seize neighbor’s lands without outside help. The history shows that they prefer to sit on a lap. This process is observed today in many cities. They have included the “genocide” into the agenda to justify themselves and win people’s love.
Q: Why the Armenian government is so jealous towards Azerbaijan?
A:bSome groups in Armenia can not simply accept Azerbaijan’s influence, role and prosperity.
The achievements made by Azerbaijan every day, every week annoy those like Kocharyan, Andonyan and Ayvazyan. Today Armenian leadership is concerned about Azerbaijan’s growing strength. The budget allocated for some special area in Azerbaijan is much more than the overall budget of Armenia. They can not accept this. They have stayed tens of years in past as a result of 20-year occupation policy.
They know this very well that people like Kocharyan and Sargsyan, who accessed the power by killing elder people and woman, will not be able to cover the way that Azerbaijan went through for five years for even 100 years.
Q: Can one expect a constructive approach in the Karabakh conflict resolution given the remarks made above, the criminal past and present of Armenia?
A: I have always commented on one issue related to negotiations. The Armenian leadership, which mitigates its stance under pressure, disrupts the logical continuation of negotiations under some pretext after some time. There is a need to grant copyright to Armenians in this changing world of diplomacy.
But I have a piece advice for them (let them not forget that Armenians have paid dearly for political schizophrenia demonstrated by them each time) give up lies and slander and accept the reality. The historical Azerbaijani lands they now live in is their last home and they will not be able to move to anywhere anymore (they have finally settled in Azerbaijani lands after they moved to different places each time in the past).
They should make sure that the current development of events will put a big question mark before them and they will not be able to find a refuge. At that time there will be no way out.
