Azerbaijani Cossacks are planning to appeal to President Ilham Aliyev about creation of a separate Cossacks division within the Defense Ministry.
According to head of the Cossacks Community in Azerbaijan Viktor Mereshkin, the decision was taken at the 22 May conference of Azerbaijani Cossacks.
He said the Cossacks of Azerbaijan are ready to defend their homeland and ensure its territorial integrity.
"Cossacks fully support the policy of the President and Supreme Commander of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and are ready to fight for native lands at his order. Cossacks have definite skills of holding military actions and we think our experience will be of use in liberating our occupied lands from Armenian aggressors", he said.
Mereshkin noted that Cossacks are taking an active part in the sociopolitical life of Azerbaijan and patriotic actions.
"Cossacks have always been patriots and the young generation of Cossacks must be brought up in the spirit of patriotism", he said.
