The presidents of the Minsk Group co-chairing states - Russia, USA and France – are to make joint statement regarding the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
During the meeting on 26 May, Russian and US presidents Dmitriy Medvedev and Barack Obama are planning to adopt a package of joint Russian-American statements including documents on cooperation in visa sector, combat against terrorism and interaction in the area of the Bering strait, as well a trilateral statement with France on Nagorno Karabakh settlement as part of the G-8 summit, assistant for the Russian leader Sergey Prikhodko said.
“The package of the documents, prepared for adoption at the meeting include a number of joint statements including on cooperation in war on terror, cooperation in visa sphere and cooperation in the area of the Bering strait”, Prikhodko said, according to RIA Novosti.
The Russian leadership proposed the initiative to ease the visa regime between Russia and the United States. US Vice President Joseph Biden said during the visit to Moscow in March that this issue can be settled.
“The international agenda also includes the issue of Nagorno Karabakh settlement, on which a joint trilateral statement is being prepared with French President Nicholas Sarkozy”, the assistant president sad.
The Karabakh conflict erupted after Armenian separatists put forward their claims regarding annexation of the Nagorno Karabakh Autonomous Oblast to Armenian SSR in February 1988.
